DD Travers, APRN
Somatic Nurse Practitioner
Integrating somatic therapies, Polyvagal Theory, IFS-informed parts work, EMDR-informed approaches, nervous system education, and Allied Relational Medicine.
This work didn’t come from a model.
It came from experience.
I began my career on the frontlines—as a paramedic, and later as a nurse practitioner.
I worked in emergency medicine, hospital settings, and street medicine—supporting people in some of the most acute and complex moments of their lives.
Over time, I started to notice something.
Many people weren’t just struggling with a diagnosis.
They were struggling with what had been missed, dismissed, or misunderstood—
in their bodies, and in their care.
I saw how often symptoms were minimized.
How often were people told everything was “normal?”
How often did trust in their own body begin to erode?
Something wasn’t adding up.
Even with the best medical care, something was still missing.
People were leaving appointments without answers.
Or with answers that didn’t fully explain what they were experiencing.
I began to look more closely at the nervous system,
at stress and trauma, and at the relationship between the body and lived experience.
A different way of working began to take shape.
Not by replacing medical care—
but by slowing down enough to listen to what the body was already communicating.
Over time, my work shifted.
Less about applying solutions.
More about tracking what is happening in real time.
More about staying with the person in front of me—without overriding their experience.
This work is also personal.
I navigate both deaf and hearing worlds.
This has shaped how I understand communication—
not just through words, but through presence, movement, and what is felt but not always spoken.
It has taught me to pay attention differently.
To notice what is subtle.
To listen beyond language.
To stay with what is emerging, even when it’s not fully formed yet.
Today
I work as a Somatic Nurse Practitioner, offering virtual care focused on the nervous system, stress, and trauma.
My approach integrates:
• clinical experience across emergency and community care
• somatic awareness and nervous system education
• relational, real-time attunement
I am the founder of The FELT Wisdom and the creator of Allied Relational Medicine (ARM), a developing framework grounded in real-time relational and somatic practice.
This work continues to evolve through clinical practice, teaching, and ongoing learning.
